Upon arriving at my stay at the Amrath Grand Hotel, I was certainly impressed by the grandeur of the building itself. I could plainly see it from blocks away. It is immense in size, and really dominates the geography of this quaint setting in Amsterdam. Apparently, this was converted form an old shipping house, and is replete with Art Nouveau and “Compagnie des Indes” style. It’s really quite beautiful.
The driver brought me around to the main entry, and I was quickly greeted by the doorman, and my bags were swiftly brought to the desk inside. Everyone seemed very courteous, yet professional. I could see that the management took care to hire very good people. The desk clerk was ready with my reservation, and had no difficulty getting things to my room without me having to bother.
I checked in easily, and my 3 day stay was quite comfortable. As I had other business in Amsterdam, I was busy at meetings and conferences the entire time. When I did come back to the hotel, I was delighted to find that they had a very nice Spa; very clean with heated swimming pool, sauna, and Jacuzzi. I must say, I needed those!
Within the room, I received free ritual cosmetic products, and there was a free Minibar, including Wine and Alcohol, and even a Nespresso Machine. Frankly, it was a real pleasure to stay at this hotel, and I was almost sad when it was time to go.
The prices for a 5 star hotel seemed fair, and I understand that they are offered at very low rates during certain seasons.
