London might not be the first place to spring to mind when sourcing great local food produce, but Urban Food Fortnight held on 12 to 28 September 2014 aims to change this misconception! To celebrate the event, Lancaster London has teamed up with Growing Kultur to create a special menu to celebrate the fabulous ultra-local produce being grown, produced and cooked on London’s doorstep.
The menu features locally sourced edible flowers and herbs from Ladbroke Grove; North London cheeses from Tottenham; day boat fish from Kent; and Lancaster London Honey from the hotel’s own rooftop beehives.
Lancaster London is passionate about the conservation of the honey bee. As such, it has ten beehives on its second floor roof, which produce honey for dishes within the hotel. To encourage better awareness of urban beekeeping, the hotel will host the fourth annual London Honey Show on Monday 6 October 2014 from 6pm. Those attending the show will be able to visit stalls and exhibits, enjoy talks from bee experts, and perhaps most importantly sample some of the delicious honey they produce.
