The Kensington Hotel a luxury home in London for elegant travelers

The Kensington Hotel London, at the intersection of Queen’s Gate and the Old Brompton Road, will command your attention with its gleaming white exterior characteristic of this sophisticated 19th Century neighbourhood. A member of the Doyle Collection, well-known for its unique luxury boutique hotels featuring rooms with a personalized touch in London, Bristol, Dublin, Cork and Washington, D.C.

Located in South Kensington, you are also only a stroll away from the Natural History Museum, the Victoria & Albert Museum, and The Royal Albert Hall. You can also visit the Kensington Palace and Hyde Park if you want to see the sights, or go shopping nearby at the famous Harrod’s if that’s more your cup of tea. If you want to go into London and sightsee there, it’s only a short ride from the hotel as well.

Located right off London’s Old Brompton Road, The Kensington Hotel London offers the ultimate spot to relax and escape the hustle and bustle of Kensington. You will also find a well-trained staff to cater to your every need, as well as high-quality furniture to lounge in and a spacious room to retire to. This hotel has it all, and looks great on the front page of a fashion magazine due to the exquisite decorations and keen attention to details.

On my recent visit to The Kensington Hotel, I felt very much at home and well-catered to. The staff went above and beyond to ensure my comfort and satisfaction, and I felt I was not in a hotel but a luxury home. If you stay here, you will be greeted with a warm welcome at the front desk, even if you speak French. Kensington remains a French meeting point in London. You will also appreciate the hospitality of the General Manager and the very proficient Chef Concierge in the great tradition of the “Clefs d’Or.”

The reception area has a sophisticated touch aligning modern art with tradition. You will find the feminine touch of the owner’s wife, with selected objects from countries such as Japan and India. All rooms have a unique design, and you can choose between a more modern design or a traditional one, depending on your personality and specific needs.

If you want to unwind with a few drinks, the Town House Bar at the hotel offers a wonderful atmosphere with its wood-panelled walls, six stunning glass teardrop chandeliers and impressive brass doors. You will feel as though you stepped back in time several decades when you enter the bar. Relax on one of the dark-purple couches as the waiters bustle to and from the mosaic-covered, semi-circular bar to bring you your choice beverage from the extensive cocktail menu.

I will advise you also to take a break at the nice Tea Time, you will love their wonderful scone and this unique cosy ambiance.

My personal advice to travelers is to make a direct reservation to the hotel to reserve a studio suite or luxury studio suite depending on your preference. Be aware that some rooms have quite small dressing rooms, so if you are traveling for business or for a long stay, you may want to choose a room with a larger dressing room to store clothing.

I stayed in room 123, a spacious suite with traditional 19th century furniture. It merged the styles of Jacques Garcia and Louis XVI with a rotund, purple velvet armchair and a large, exquisite desk. It also featured a Waterford crystal chandelier and a very comfortable canopy bed. Of course, you could find a large LCD TV screen and an iPod docking system to listen to music. The room included a spacious bath area where I could relax and watch TV while taking a bath, and had a modern Victorian style with black marble washbasins and soft wallpapers with paintings. Surprisingly, the room had a separate toilet and rainbow shower (not so common in London). All bath products were from Aromatherapy Associates.

Staying at The Kensington Hotel, is for me a master choice and it will become your luxury cosy home in London, as it is for many famous people in fashion, media or simply as discerning travelers.
