London is definitely one of the gastronomy capitals of the world, with a wild combination of international and British cuisines, hundreds of skilled chefs and dozens of quality restaurants, many of them rivaling for the title of best dining in London. Among these top restaurant choices of the Capital, we had the chance to try the esteemed Island Grill housed inside Lancaster London, a prestigious establishment right next to Hyde Park. The restaurant, with its own entrance opposite the park, is definitely worth visiting for the fascinating cuisine by the talented Head Chef Darren Marshall and the skillful executive chef Ben Purton, both winning awards for their delicious and creative cooking. Among the many details that make the Island Grill a wonderful choice is the fact that they use fresh local ingredients for their menu, including exceptional Welsh lamb, fish and seafood from the British Coast and so on.
Our dinner experience was truly unforgettable – so good that I am already thinking of ways to revisit London just to try their delicious recipes. I highly advise on booking a table with a view towards Hyde Park for the complete peaceful feeling of accomplishment. The staff and manager of the restaurant are extremely helpful and knowledgeable on every aspect. We started our experience with dressed Devonshire crab and smoked trout with cucumber and mint salad, a very refreshing and delicious starter, so good that at one time I was thinking of reordering. The main course consisted of Moroccan spiced rump of Welsh lamb with warm baba ganoush and roasted cauliflower tabouleh. This was definitely the highlight of the meal and I am already thinking of trying it again. As for my wife, she tried the delicious roast Suffolk spring chicken with cavolo nero, salardaise potatoes, confit garlic and rich chicken jus.
All of these marvels were beautifully entangled with a mouthwatering dessert, some of the best to be found in London. I had the heavenly honey panna cotta, a honey flavored set cream with chocolate and honeycomb. This is one of the signature desserts at Island Grill, as the honey comes from their own beehives on the rooftop. My wife tried the banoffee cheesecake, made with soft cream cheese and caramelised banana with a Hobnob biscuit base and toffee sauce, definitely the best cheesecake in London. Everything was perfectly balanced with the marvelous Italian Canti Merlot wine, with its discreet sweet flavors of blackberry and cherry. Overall, this was one of the best gastronomic experiences in London, a rich and delicious meal in one of the most enchanting locations possible. Island Grill offers extremely quality meals for affordable prices, including a lunch and early dinner option during the week, at £12.50 for 3 courses, while the weekend brunch is definitely worth a reservation.
