Considered by some guides as one of the three best hotels in Europe, The Historical Hotel Amigo is a must stay if you want luxury and style. This magnificent building was built before 1522 then purchased from a wealthy merchant family and turned into a prison. The unique name was misunderstood by the Spanish rulers at the time and thought the name for prison to mean “friend” and translated this into their own language as “Amigo”. This irony of misunderstanding stuck with the locals of Brussels and the name was retained. Eventually the building was re-built as a hotel by the Blaton family in 1957.
Another great feature of the Hotel is that it lies almost directly in the center of the Grand Place, which is close to the historic center of Brussels. The Grand Place is considered to be the center of Brussels and a very important tourist destination. Many of the rooms look out onto the roofs of the Hotel de Ville; and once outside if you cast your eyes in the right direction you will see St Michael slaying the devil on the tip of its spire.
When you exit the front door, you are lead straight into a matrix of medieval cobblestone streets that surround the Grand Place. Mr. Rocco Forte went to no expense in creating new life into Hotel Amigo. Under the tutelage of designer Olga Polizzi, the interior is a beautiful mixture of elegant Flemish tradition, with refined linens, silk curtains, and contemporary Italian sensibility. Every bedroom and suite at Hotel Amigo are individual in style, spacious and luxurious, that makes you feel like royalty but still keeping it’s B&B charm.
With several room types and sizes to fit all needs, such as the Classic King or Twin Bed rooms start around 300 sq. ft. (28 sq. m). Of course for those who wish for something bigger and more luxurious they offer the Classic and Deluxe Suite with up to 860 sq. ft. (80 sq. m). If you have a larger group or just wish to live like the Rich, Then our Presidential Suite Rene Magritte and the Royal Suite Amand Blaton offers 1200 -2,000 sq. ft. (180 sq. m) respectively. All Suites provide complimentary Internet access, in-room movies and Continental Breakfast to make you feel right at home.
