Located just 5 minutes from Place de l’Étoile, one of the busiest arteries in the city, Citrus Etoile exemplifies the incredibly high culinary standards of the city with its vision of blending tradition with innovation. Head chef Gilles Epié and his wife, Elisabeth, treat their customers to an unforgettable dining experience within a finely decorated, stylish but understated setting, where you will immediately feel comfortable. It is a cosy home away from home where the food is always great and all you have to do is sit back and enjoy a wonderful experience for the senses.

The moment when you finally get the chance to sit down and taste the food served at Citrus Etoile is going to be the moment when you realise why this restaurant is one of the most highly rated eateries in all of Paris. The impeccable execution is only matched by the creativity in the kitchen. As the owner loves to put it, this is truly a place where “cuisine rhymes with poetry”.

The concept behind the food in this restaurant is quite intriguing: the core staple of French gastronomy makes its way across the world and, like a seasoned traveller getting wiser, brings something new and exciting back home from each adventure. The chef and his team work with a truly exotic and diverse palette of colours and flavours. Everything is included here, from the spices of Asia to the freshness and liveliness of California.

No matter where the flavours may take you, you can always expect food made with devotion and care using only the finest possible ingredients. No wonder this is one of Alain Ducasse’s regular dining spots in Paris!

The excellent food is complemented by an extensive collection of wine which can be purchased by the glass, unlike many other restaurants in Paris which will only sell it by the bottle.

Our “a la carte” experience started with some delicious tapas and a nice selection of bread. We then moved onto a starter of smoked boneless Sardines Royales served with Israeli couscous and spicy lemon comfit vinaigrette—an exquisite blend of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavours. Next, we had a Guilvinec Langoustine Carpaccio, expertly marinated with sweet spices, lychees, java black long pepper and olive oil. This was all washed down with some excellent Pouilly Fumé 2013 (from Eric Bardin), which complemented the foods we were sampling perfectly!

We continued with a main of Royal Sea Bream, together with fresh peas, squid and an unforgettable veal jus. The fish was perfectly cooked and the wine, a Marsannay 2012 burgundy from Philippe Nadeff, drew out all of the subtle flavour of the fish.

The dessert, a Soufflé Air du Temps flavoured with orange blossom was a masterpiece of French cooking and is a difficult dish for even the best of chefs. It was the finest soufflé I have had in ages.

The vibrant food combined with the relaxed and discrete setting of Citrus Etoile is an ideal venue, whether you are looking for a special place to take your date or just want to meet up with colleagues for a business lunch. It is a must for all foodies on a leisure visit to Paris and also worth mentioning that the restaurant offers a great lunch deal that allows diners to experience 3 seasonal courses for only 49 Euros per person.
